Did you know?
You don't have to be a lawyer to argue before the Supreme Court? Actually, you generally do need to be a member of the Supreme Court Bar to argue a case there, but lawyers can be admitted to the bar after meeting specific requirements.
Upcoming important pre law dates:
- October 1, 2026: November LSAT Registration Deadline. The November LSAT is November 11-14, with scores released December 2.
- October 15, 2026: Texas A&M Law Binding Decision Priority Deadline
- October 21, 2026: How To Get Into A T14 School Attend LTA's annual speaker keynote featuring Najib Gazi, a UTD undergraduate alum who attended Harvard Law.
- November 1, 2026: UT Austin Law Early Decision Deadline
- November 14 & 15, 2026: LTA Intramural Mock Trial Competition
Law spotlight
The Lindsay Clancy Mistrial
Lindsay Clancy was charged with murder in the January 2023 deaths of her three children. Her defense did not dispute that she caused their deaths, so the trial turned on criminal responsibility. Her attorneys argued severe postpartum psychosis, while prosecutors argued she acted knowingly and with intent. After 36 hours of deliberations, the jury deadlocked 11 to 1 and the judge declared a mistrial on September 4, 2026. A mistrial is not an acquittal. Prosecutors have not decided whether to retry her, and the next hearing is November 2.
2026 LTA Intramural Mock Trial Competition Registration
The LTA Intramural Mock Trial Competition was formed to be a bridge between Texas High School Mock Trial and UTD's Collegiate Mock Trial program. We invite Texas high school mock trial witnesses to compete in a mock trial where UTD students get to step into the shoes of lawyers and argue the annual case. 2026 Competition Details: Date: November 14th & 15th, 2026 Time: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM (Teams will be assigned two 110-minute trials on each side of the case throughout the weekend) Deadline to Register: October 22nd, 2026 Link to Register: https://www.ltautd.com/compete
